Hello one, hello all. No more facebook or mycrap and the like. I have decided to start a blog. Who knows what will become of it? If it is anything like my history with journal keeping then we can all trust it won't make it past the first three or four posts. Or perhaps it will outlast and outshine any interwebical undertakings in the history of electricity and we will all be better people for it. Not likely. The plan? Yes, the plan. I will load some pics, I will tell some stories. I may even link to some other sites. Guidelines should include: camping, living out of the Jeep, skiing, sailing, and any of the other things that has kept me vagabonding every six months, for nearly a decade. Might be a good way to keep people up to date, and far less time consuming than the failed youtube endeavor. Sounds fun don't it!
Okay!
To begin: Location.
I am currently in the the area of Idaho which can only be described as "The Southeast Triangle" (coined by Jessie Call, thanks Jess!) Yes, Southeast Idaho. Easy to get stuck here. Both physically and in the brain dome. It couldn't be a better time of year to be here though. Late summer rainstorms mixed with hot days and increasingly cool nights, as The Triangle's best season, Autumn, approaches. I am glad to be here for my bi-annual shoulder season. I am fresh off of the water after having spent my summer season crewing a 96 year 133 foot schooner, The Adventuress, in the San Juans (Washington state). It was a great summer, I even got to sail aboard another schooner, The Zodiac, and at this point it is likely that one day I will return to that ship to do a bit more sailing. But I do love these shoulder seasons. It doesn't get much better than a month long road trip, visiting family and friends, as I make my way back to Bend and preparing for the snow and the mountain and the long winter. Can't wait.
But I must admit, The Triangle tried to catch me in a death grip this last weekend. It was so warm and clear out that sleeping a few nights out in my parents yard on their gigantic hammock was quite captivating. If only it were like that here always. It was great to look up and see the Big Dipper, and Cassiopeia and then drift off to sleep. They were right there, just where I left them a few days before as I spent my last night in Friday Harbor. On Saturday I woke to birds and tractors flying by (autumn for them too) and was shortly thereafter picked up by old friends, Kevin and Dustin. We grabbed our mountain bikes and headed up Wolverine Canyon. We left one truck at the bottom, took the other to the top, and biked down "The W". Dirt, stumps, sticks, creeks, and only one spill! Then they dropped me off back at the hammock where I spent to rest of the afternoon. Then dinner. Then Hammock. Then awaking to rain.
Damn you Triangle.
